COACH PARKING INFORMATION
Edinburgh is an old and historic city, the oldest part being the Royal Mile
with the Palace of Holyroodhouse at one end and the Castle at
the other.
The most popular tourist areas are the Royal Mile and Princes Street,
attracting visitors from all over the world throughout the year
but reaching a peak of popularity during the Festival. As the
Tattoo takes place every day (except Sunday) during the Festival,
streets are very busy and congestion quickly occurs if indiscriminate
coach parking is allowed.
As at any other time of year, coaches may be parked at Lothian
Buses Marine Garage, Seafield Road. However, special arrangements
have been made for coaches bringing people to see the Tattoo and
your co-operation is sought to ensure that your drivers are fully
conversant with the information given below. The arrangements
have been made so as to enable spectators TO BE SET DOWN AND PICKED
UP AT THE SAME POINT in a city unfamiliar to them.
- The following streets have been reserved for coach parking from the times stated.
Coaches parking earlier than the times given risk being towed away.
- On nights when there is a single performance (from 7.00pm)
and for the first performance on nights when there are two performances (
from 6.00pm).
GEORGE IV BRIDGE (both sides)
CHAMBERS STREET (both sides)
MARKET STREET (both sides)
- For the second performance on nights when there are two performances
- KING'S STABLES ROAD (both sides) (from 6.00 pm).
CASTLE TERRACE (both sides) (from 6.00 pm).
It must be understood that on nights when there are two performances,
coaches arriving after the streets mentioned
in (a) above have been filled, will be diverted to King's
Stables Road.
- Coaches will be parked in these streets under the direction of the
police and will remain in situ until passengers return after
the performance. Please note that:
- coaches will set down and uplift passengers only as directed by the
police in the streets mentioned; and
- that access to King's Stables Road is only by Princes Street and Lothian Road.
Neither Waverley Bridge nor Regent Road may be used as coach parking
areas. If in doubt on any matter please refer to the police
officers in attendance and be guided by them or contact Lothian
and Borders Police, 'A' Division Headquarters, 14
St Leonards Street, Edinburgh EH8 9QW. Tel. 0131-662 5000.
- It should be noted that in all cases spectators will have to
make the final approach to the Castle Esplanade on foot.
- Where non ambulant spectators are included a vehicle pass must be
obtained.
