Scotland's Sell-Out Sensation
Posted 10th February 2006

Tattoo fans have now snapped up all the available tickets for this summer's RBS-sponsored annual spectacle, six months in advance of opening night, ensuring their place at the 57th military showpiece event, the final curtain call for Producer Brigadier Mel Jameson.

He said: "I'm delighted that after 56-years the Tattoo is now more popular than ever and it's such good news that the success of this event continues to make a significant impact on the Scottish tourism economy as well as on our ability to increase our yearly charitable giving."

This marks the eighth successive sold-out season for the Tattoo and represents the fastest ever sell-out in the event's history - six weeks earlier than last year.

And with tickets for the 2006 Tattoo (4-26 August) already sold before the full line-up has even been revealed, suggests that this August's extravaganza is one of the most eagerly anticipated yet. It is expected that the cast of the 2006 production will include a number of yet to be unveiled surprises.

Smashing all previous Tattoo records, the 208,848 tickets sold for this summer's 24-performance run at the Castle Esplanade has generated £4.6 million in box office receipts.

The sold-out signs were raised earlier today though some resale tickets may be available for performances until the end of the 2006 run.

Plus, a limited number of half-price tickets are to go on sale for the Thursday, August 3rd preview performance of this year's Tattoo at 10.00am on Monday, July 24th from the Tattoo Ticket Sales Office at 33-34 Market Street. These tickets may also be obtained by telephone on 08707 555 118 or via the Internet at www.edintattoo.co.uk.

Over 1,000 performers from Australia, Switzerland, South Africa, New Zealand and the United Kingdom are set to feature in this summer's Tattoo which celebrates the Army in Scotland and includes the largest gathering of Pipes & Drums ever to grace the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle.

-Ends-
