It
was deemed the most successful Edinburgh Military Tattoo yet staged,
so following up this summer's critically acclaimed production
is expected to be no mean feat.
But
Tattoo Chief Executive & Producer, Brigadier Melville Jameson
is determined to go one better than the year before.
He
said: "As ever, it is my aim to produce the best Tattoo in
the business - I realise this will be somewhat of a challenge
but my small Tattoo team and I are absolutely intent on matching
- if not surpassing - the success of its predecessor."
The
Brigadier explained that while 2006 will have even more of the
traditionally preferred elements, including a celebration of the
Army in Scotland, it will also showcase some never-before-seen
surprises at the annual showpiece military event.
Along
with the largest gathering of Pipes & Drums ever to grace
the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle will be two of the finest military
bands in the world, the Regimental Bands of The Scots Guards and
The Coldstream Guards.
While
from overseas, South Africa is set to make a major contribution
to next year's proceedings. Accompanying the Pipes & Drums
of The Cape Town Highlanders will be 50 South African Highland
Dancers and, in their first visit to these shores, the Cape Minstrels,
complete with their traditional musicians and singers.
The
90-minute production will also include contributions from the
ever-popular New Zealand Army Band, who previously appeared at
the Queen's Golden Jubilee Tattoo in 2002, as well as the return,
by popular demand, of the awesome Top Secret Drum Corps from Basel
in Switzerland.
And
next year, for the very first time at the Tattoo, the grand finale
will feature award-winning music from Disney's worldwide phenomenon
The Lion King.
Over
1000 performers from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland
and the United Kingdom will combine with highly sophisticated
21st century production technology to provide a unique and memorable
spectacle of music, colour and action.
"While
the Edinburgh Tattoo will continue to present the very best of
Scottish culture, I also plan to introduce further special surprises
from abroad which will be announced in the New Year", said
Brigadier Jameson.
The
Edinburgh Tattoo, which is set up and run for charitable purposes,
is grateful to principal sponsor, The Royal Bank of Scotland,
for its ongoing support. Sir George Mathewson, Chairman of The
Royal Bank of Scotland Group, said: "Last year The Edinburgh
Military Tattoo proved itself yet again to be Scotland's most
prestigious and internationally renowned tourist event and again
we are delighted to be involved."
