A
Celebration of The Royal Navy and Trafalgar 200
Posted
22nd November 2004
With
Edinburgh Castle as the superb floodlit setting, over 1,000 performers
from the United Kingdom, Russia, Norway and the USA are set to
provide a wealth of entertainment at next year's Edinburgh Tattoo
(5-27 August).
Commemorating
one of the greatest heroes of all time, Admiral Lord Nelson, and
the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, will see the
56th Tattoo embrace a distinctly maritime flavour.
"The
2005 Tattoo will be a moving tribute to that famous Admiral and
mark one of the greatest ever victories at sea," remarked
Tattoo Producer and Chief Executive, Brigadier Melville Jameson.
"It promises to be a marvellous show packed with elements
of surprise and excitement," he continued.
Next
year is in fact the turn of the Senior Service to play a leading
role in the show, hence a large Royal Marines contingent with
over 100 musicians and a team of commandos.
But
2005 will place the accent on music, dance and display with a
programme expected to delight an international audience with its
magnificent multi-cultural mix.
Show-stopping
turns are anticipated from the Russian Cossack State Song &
Dance Ensemble, while The Imps from London's Docklands will present
a thrilling motorcycle display performed at breathtaking speed.
Highlights of the 2005 event will also include an amazing demonstration
of precision drill by the Guard of His Majesty the King of Norway,
whose skill with bayonet tipped rifles has excited spectators
on six previous occasions.
Whilst
alongside these colourful overseas displays, will be The Light
Division Band and Bugles who will provide a stunning musical and
marching exhibition, performed at an incredible 140-paces per
minute.
Yet,
once again the stirring sounds of a 200-strong Massed Pipes &
Drums is expected to ignite proceedings with a highly-charged
appearance at the 56th military showpiece.
"While
the Edinburgh Tattoo will continue to represent the finest in
Scottish traditions - pageantry, colour and spectacle - I will
again be introducing a few new touches to help ensure the show
maintains its enduring appeal," Brigadier Jameson said.
The
Edinburgh Tattoo is grateful to principal sponsor, The Royal Bank
of Scotland, for its ongoing support. Sir George Mathewson, Chairman
of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group said: "The Tattoo is
one of the jewels in the crown of Scotland's tourism calendar.
The acts lined up for 2005 promise yet another outstanding event
and we are delighted to be supporting it once again."
