SPIRIT OF THE TATTOO
THE TATTOO'S FIRST COMPILATION DVD
Posted 2nd September 2003

An impressive 100-minute compilation programme of the very best moments from the last seven Edinburgh Tattoos (1996-2002) - including exclusive never-before-seen special features - has this week been released on DVD to celebrate the showpiece military event's fastest ever sell-out season in its 53-year existence.

The action-packed programme features some awe-inspiring contributions from, among others, the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force Steel Orchestra, the cycling Dutch musicians of Trompetterkorps Bereden Wapens, Moscow's Russian Cossack State Song and Dance Ensemble, and the Cook Islands National Youth Dance Team from the South Pacific. It also includes stirring performances from the ever popular Pipes & Drums of Scotland's finest regiments together with the thrilling music of the Massed Military Bands and features musical favourites such as Highland Cathedral, Gael and Amazing Grace.

Tattoo Chief Executive & Producer, Brigadier Melville Jameson, said: "This is a fascinating record of the very essence of the Tattoo and stands as a colourful showcase of its enduring appeal".

This compelling combination of music, excitement and stunning visual display has been duplicated under exclusive licence from the BBC who filmed the proceedings, and produced and digitally edited by West Linton-based film production company, Electric Picture Machine.

Said EPM Production's Ken Andrew: "The superior picture quality and digital sound makes DVD the perfect medium for watching this spectacular show at home. With extras including behind the scenes news releases and interviews not normally available on video and the main programme viewable for the first time in widescreen, this release is an exciting new product."

Describing the dramatic sights and sounds is top Narrator, Tom Fleming, host of countless state occasions covered by the BBC for over 40 years.

Copies of this new all-region Tattoo DVD - with its cinema-like video and better-than-CD audio - may be obtained from the Tattoo Shop, 33-34 Market Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1QB, at a cost of £17.95 (+P&P where applicable). It can also be purchased via the internet at www.edintattoo.co.uk or from your local DVD retailer.
