FOR TATTOO SELL-OUT IN RECORD TIME
Posted
25th July 2003
The
54th Edinburgh Tattoo has sold out in record time. With seven
days to go before the show opens next Friday (1st August), the
Tattoo has smashed all previous records with 100% of the available
seats snapped up. This represents the fastest ever sell out in
the event's 53-year history.
217,
275 tickets for the 3-week military showpiece on the Castle Esplanade
have now been sold generating some £3.7million in box office
receipts, marking the 54th Tattoo as the most successful ever.
Brigadier
Melville Jameson, Tattoo Chief Executive & Producer said:
"All of us here in the Tattoo Team are extremely proud of
this fantastic achievement, and one which marks our fifth successive
sell-out season. It is of course the hard work of everyone involved
that has brought about this extraordinary accomplishment."
"Our
thanks must also go to our sponsor partners who have helped create
the conditions for the Tattoo to flourish once again. We are in
particular most grateful to our main sponsor, The Royal Bank of
Scotland, Dewar's World of Whisky, Ford, Sheraton Grand Hotel
& Spa, Edinburgh, and the Caledonian Brewery."
Sir
George Mathewson, Chairman of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group
said: "It comes as no surprise that the Tattoo has sold out
so quickly this year judging by the quality of acts. It is truly
an international event drawing a viewing audience of 100 million
worldwide. I regularly attend the Tattoo and think it provides
a wonderful spectacle."
The
'sold-out' signs were raised at mid-day today though some re-sale
tickets may be available for performances until the end of the
run on August 23rd.
Next
year's Military Tattoo runs from August 6-28 and bookings will
be accepted from 10.00am on Monday 1st December 2003.
