PLATINUM AWARD FOR WORLDWIDE TATTOO VIDEO SALES
Posted 11th March 2003

Since the release of the best moments from last year's phenomenally successful Queen's Golden Jubilee Edinburgh Tattoo on video cassette, some twenty weeks ago, global shipments of the recording have won a Scottish Record Industry Association (SRIA) Platinum Award.

The impressive 90-minute programme - including previously unseen footage - has continued to sell well since its release last October. It has already topped the video charts in Scotland and has now been certified platinum for sales in excess of £250,000.

In 2001 the SRIA presented the Tattoo with a Gold Award for sales of its year 2000 video production.

Edinburgh Tattoo Chief Executive & Producer, Brigadier Melville Jameson, said: "The success of this recording certainly seems to illustrate that the appeal of the Tattoo is undiminished."

On behalf of the Industry, SRIA Treasurer, Dougie Stevenson remarked: "I am delighted that the Tattoo's continued success has been underlined with this well earned acknowledgement".

The action-packed programme features show-stopping contributions from, among others, The United States Marine Corps Albany Band from Georgia, The Band of The Mounted Arms from The Royal Netherlands Army, India's Dhol Cholom, Pung Cholom and Thang-Ta, the southern hemisphere Bands of Australia, New Zealand and Tonga, a 100-strong Commonwealth Highland Dance Troupe, and acclaimed New Zealand Opera singer, Joanna Heslop. It also includes stirring performances from the ever-popular Pipes & Drums of some of Scotland's and the Commonwealth's finest Regiments together with the inspiring music of the Tri-Service Bands of The Royal Marines, The Scots Guards, and The Royal Air Force.

Highlights of last summer's record-breaking show may be obtained on video from the Tattoo Shop, 33-34 Market Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1QB, at a cost of £14.00 for the PAL version (suitable for use in the UK, Europe and Australasia), and £17.00 for the NTSC format (for viewing in the USA, Canada, Japan), plus post & packing where applicable. It can also be purchased via the internet at www.edintattoo.co.uk or from your local video retailer.
