WORLD-CLASS
SPECTACLE SET FOR 54TH EDINBURGH TATTOO - BOOKING OPENS DECEMBER
2nd 2002
Posted
26th November 2002
The
very best of modern production technology combined with 600 musicians,
fireworks, horses, traditional pageantry and theatrical special
effects are set to provide a unique and memorable celebration
of music, dance and spectacle at next year's 54th Edinburgh Tattoo
(1 -23 August, 2003).
Over
1,000 performers from Oman, Bermuda, Britain, Australia, Canada
and New Zealand will take part in the 3-week showpiece military
event, which is expected to entertain some 9,000 visitors every
night.
Brigadier
Melville Jameson, Edinburgh Tattoo Chief Executive & Producer,
explained that while 2003 will follow up 2002's phenomenally successful
Queen's Golden Jubilee event with even more of the traditionally
preferred elements, including an important Edinburgh Regiment's
anniversary, it will also showcase some never before seen acts
at the Tattoo.
He
said: " The 2003 Tattoo will mark some key events in our
military history such as 370 years of The Royal Scots and provide
one or two surprises from overseas."
The
90-minute production will include a display from The King's Troop
Royal Horse Artillery as well as contributions from The Flying
Gunners Motorcycle Display Team, The Royal Army of Oman, and the
colourfully exotic Gombey Dancers with the Band of The Royal Bermuda
Regiment.
But
the centerpiece and perennial favourite of the Tattoo with a 200-strong
line-up will be the stirring sights and sounds of the world-famous
Massed Pipes and Drums, which remain the principal reason why
people wish to attend the annual event.
The
Edinburgh Tattoo is grateful to The Royal Bank of Scotland for
its ongoing support. Sir George Mathewson, Chairman of The Royal
Bank of Scotland Group said: "The Tattoo is one of the jewels
in the Crown of Scotland's tourism calendar. The acts lined up
for 2003 promise yet another outstanding event and we are delighted
to be supporting it once again."
